Abstract

The author, after referring to different theories that try to explain the factors of the criminality, shows different faces of the violence and makes a study on the relations between security and human rights; then discusses the role of the police and society in this regard; the article focuses on the mass incarceration, including people without sentence, and its harmful consequences, among them the violation of the human rights of prisoners. The author adds that a criminal policy should not be measured by more severe laws or punishments; public security and prison system are, after all, inseparable and constitute enormous challenges in the contemporary world, in which certain values, such as solidarity, inclusion and peace, must prevail.
