O presente trabalho faz parte das comemorações dos 70 anos da Declaração Universal dos Direitos Humanos. Primeiro, descreve o processo de preparação e de adoção da Declaração e o que significou. A seguir, analisa o seu alcance para o Direito Internacional, a sua recepção no direito nacional dos Estados, bem como as Duas Conferências Mundiais de Direitos Humanos. Depois, procura demonstrar o amplo alcance das obrigações convencionais para a proteção integral dos Direitos Humanos. Por fim, o ensaio finaliza mostrando as tendências para o futuro da proteção internacional dos Direitos Humanos.
