The main purpose of this paper is the analysis of the recent legislative process in Mexico that ended up in the creation of a new law for the Attorney General; this legislation abrogated the previous one that has ruled the institution. The supposed justification of that decision was the need of a new legislation that will respect the constitutional autonomy that the Attorney General in Mexico has since 2018.
Initially the legal proposal contemplated very risky issues that we will address during the development of this paper; although some of them did not prospered, the new legislation became a reality although it was not accepted by the main actors in the tragedy of the disappearances in Mexico and one of the most serious human rights violations; namely the relatives of the thousands of missing persons.
