EL COSTE HUMANO DE LA DEGRADACION DEL MEDIO AMBIENTE: LA MIGRACIÓN AMBIENTAL

El medio ambiente es ei principal sustento de las poblaciones y de su subsistência y representa además la base de su desarrollo humano: proporciona los bienes y servicios esenciales, que contribuyen a Ia satisfacción de Ias necesidades humanas, a Ia realización de los derechos humanos más fundamentales y es esencial para ei desarrollo y calidad de Ia vida. Su degradación origina Ia falta de recursos y Ia pobreza de Ia población, que no tiene más opciones que Ia de migrar a otro território para garantizar su subsistência. Por Io tanto, Ia degradación ambiental constitute una causa per se directamente relacionada con los movimientos de población, a través de Ia cual Ia libertad de migrar deviene Ia "necesidad de migrar".
El presente estúdio analiza como la actual desprotección de Ias poblaciones migrantes, forzadas a cambiar ei lugar de su residência por causas ambientales, requiere necesariamente una respuesta internacional urgente, basada en Ia cooperación y en el reconocimiento y garantia de los derechos humanos.
